Based on the legend about a power mad ex-prime minister who stole a sand dune on the south coast of Sardinia, LA DUNA revolves around the question: Who owns the land? A collection of bizarre, fairytale, absurd and true stories about power, ownership, migration and resistance, held together by sand as a motive considered to be lands' smallest particle.

The film traces the actions of inhabitants and visitors of Sardinia’s Southern Coast and connects an expropriated farmer scaring off NATO with goat skulls; a fictitious warfare scenario containing the “invention of Africa” ; an entrepreneurial fisherman bringing a group of tourists to a radioactive contaminated peninsula; a department store chain owner trying to build the “Costa Dorada” of Teulada; a stubborn 92 year old farmer chasing away an international real estate consortium; a seasonal waitress planning a yacht harbor in Matriarchy; an undercover housewife disguised as a psychologist, a scattered Sardinian family annually preparing a large pile of couscous, populist environmentalists; tons of sand in plastic bottles and the enduring ''battle for the narrative.''
