UMBRA in the international competition
Our latest experimental film production UMBRA by Johannes Krell & Florian Fischer will celebrate its world premiere at the 69th International Film Festival in Berlin in the “Berlinale Shorts” section.
In addition to UMBRA, 23 other films from 17 countries will compete for the Golden Bear, the Silver Bear, the Audi Short Film Award worth €20,000 and the nomination for the "Berlin Short Film Candidate for the European Film Awards 2019".
Thematically, the short films of this year's competition revolve around different dimensions of power, visibility and knowledge as integral elements of the question of participation. "We need new role models and multiple stories to shape the future," says curator Maike Mia Höhne.
The US senior curator at Vimeo, Jeffrey Bowers, Vanja Kaludjercic, the Croatian director of acquisition at MUBI, and Koyo Kouoh, the artistic director and founder of the RAW Material Company from Senegal, form the International Short Film Jury in 2019.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the entire UMBRA team, as well as our sponsors/co-producers from the Academy of Media and Arts in Cologne, the "Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung", the "Film- und Medienstiftung NRW", the federal government commissioner for Culture and Media and the "Werkleitz Gesellschaft e.V".
We are looking forward to seeing you again in the cinema hall!
